Q: What was going through your mind as the events of yesterday played out on Parliament Hill?
A: I wasn’t overly shocked. We have been hearing about [radicalization of Canadians] for a while, and I don’t think we have been doing enough about it in Canada. I wrote a letter to Stephen Harper in April, 2013, saying this is a serious issue — and I never heard back. But there are de-radicalization programs in other countries, such as Belgium and Denmark. Why are we so far behind? We need to start acting. The first thing the government needs to do is admit that we have a real problem in Canada.
Q: Has Canada lost its innocence?
A: I don’t think that we had any innocence to begin with. But I think we have kept quiet…
